hi guys. welcome to another episode of amsterdam calling i'm sander and today i'm joined by jessica cutrufello and she is from the travel blog a wanderlust for life hi jessica. it's nice to meet you. it's nice to meet you too.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, we both hosted a couple of different amsterdam calling episodes but this is the first one we've done together and i'm really excited. i am too and it's going to be an exciting episode because we are going on a little adventure outside amsterdam
and it involves canoes. that's right. we're going to the wetlands safari canoe tour where we're going to travel through the beautiful dutch countryside and the waterland area. here at central station they are going to pick us up we're meeting the group, we're going by bus to the starting point. we're going today for a canoe trip just ten minutes out of amsterdam we will pass cows, bird life, picnicking on an island and of course, finishing in a small, nice, quiet village. the chance to see the real dutch way of living.
we just met the group and our tour guide majel and we're going to take the bus for a short 15 minute ride to the starting point. we love amsterdam! we go traveling between all small islands with cows and the cows and the sheep that you see today that you realize that they came there by boat so, we're in the amsterdam boat in front of us there are two boats from ohio one minnesota boat and we've got one indian boat on the right
so it's a bit like a boat race. reporting for amsterdam calling this is your captain, sander oudkerk the cows, they are just checking us out, like.. who are those people in those funny boats...mooo! these boats right here are how the cows actually get from island to island in this whole area. so, we've stopped at this super cute spot and we're going to have a picnic and meet some new friends. when you pump water from low to high
and they did that with this windmill in this ditch behind this windmill you pump it to your neighbor and you get in a fight. that is how the dutch democracy started more than 750 years ago there is some real dutch wildlife behind us they are having a barbeque.. shhhh!!! i think we are able to make this bridge without a problem but "duck!" we're back!......stop jessica!
there's nothing better than a dutch beer after a traditional afternoon of dutch canoeing. or a coke whatever floats your boat. whatever floats your canoe. and we're back in amsterdam it was amazing to realize there is so much nature around the city that you simply not aware of and it's only 15 minutes away by bus.
